CONTEXT
The Challenge
How SLICK repositioned The School Photographer, rebuilt its identity and digital experience, and established an always-on creative partnership capable of delivering high-volume communications at speed.
A national presence its brand no longer expressed.
For four decades, The School Photographer—TSP—has built its position as one of Australia’s largest school-photography providers.
Central to that growth is its Alliance network: a national community of providers operating with TSP’s support, expertise and exposure to schools across Australia. The business had earned the trust of some of the country’s most respected schools and developed the scale, experience and operational capability of a national leader.
Its outward brand, however, had not kept pace.
TSP’s identity, website and marketing materials no longer communicated the size of the organisation, the quality of its service or the experience behind it. The website had not been meaningfully transformed in decades, while the broader visual identity lacked the confidence and cohesion required to distinguish TSP in a competitive market.
The limitations were also operational. TSP needed to increase its capacity to produce high-quality marketing communications across print, digital, web, email, social media, video and motion—without building a substantially larger internal team.
The business did not simply need a new appearance. It needed a brand worthy of its national position and a production model capable of activating that brand consistently, quickly and at scale.
FOUNDATION
Why SLICK?
SLICK’s philosophy and methodology was critical to the success of both the project and our ongoing partnership with TSP.
A transformation with two key success-measures.
TSP General Manager Craig Honey engaged SLICK to solve two connected problems.
First, we needed to close the gap between TSP’s established market position and the way the organisation presented itself. That required a clearer strategic position, a more distinctive identity, a contemporary digital experience and a cohesive family of launch communications.
Second, we needed to strengthen TSP’s ongoing marketing capability. The new brand had to function as a practical communications system—one that could support a large and varied production workload well beyond launch.
This dual brief shaped the engagement from the beginning. Strategy, identity, digital experience and ongoing production were treated as parts of one operating system rather than isolated projects.
phase 01
Brand Strategy
Initial project activities that deliver insights and analytics that inform and influence the ways in which SLICK and TSP progressed through to an impactful launch.
Becoming the brand its name already promised.
“The School Photographer” is an unusually direct and confident name. It does not describe one provider among many; it carries the authority of the category itself.
Our strategy was designed to help TSP live up to that confidence.
SLICK developed a messaging platform around memory, educational milestones, the passage of time and a child’s journey through school. Rather than presenting school photography as a purely transactional service, the platform recognised the enduring value of the moments being captured.
A photograph that begins as part of an ordinary school day eventually becomes a record of growth, identity, friendships and a stage of life that cannot be repeated. TSP’s role is to be behind the camera at each of those moments, preserving them for students, families and school communities.
This gave the brand a position that was both authoritative and human: national capability supported by an understanding of why school photography matters.

PHASE 02
Brand Identity
Moving away from generic corporatism, we developed a visual system built on memory, humanity, and sentimentality.
A visual language for learning, memory and time.
The refreshed identity was built around the confidence of the TSP name and the emotional territory established by the strategy.
Rather than relying on an icon or decorative emblem, the brand name itself became the principal identity device. Large-scale typography allowed TSP’s words and messages to create impact, giving the organisation a direct and recognisable presence across communications.

The wider visual language drew inspiration from a familiar human experience: the notes, sketches, underlines and spontaneous marks children make across textbooks and school materials.
These expressive, hand-drawn elements were placed in contrast with refined, academically influenced contemporary serif typography. Together, they created a system that felt credible without becoming institutional, and human without becoming juvenile.
The identity could be bold when used for major campaigns, restrained when applied to formal school communications, and flexible enough to support the large volume of assets TSP needed to produce.
That flexibility was fundamental. The identity was not designed only to look distinctive in a launch campaign; it was designed to keep generating coherent communications across print, digital, web, social, events and motion.
Phase 03
Web Design & Development
We engineered a custom WordPress website with intuitive pathways for parents, schools, and teachers to engage with the brand, and connect with the products TSP provides.
A digital experience designed around real audiences.
TSP’s website became the most comprehensive expression of the refreshed brand and an important tool for translating the new position into customer experience.
SLICK restructured the experience around TSP’s principal audiences: parents, teachers and schools. Each group arrives with different priorities, questions and levels of familiarity, so the site needed to provide clear pathways without adding complexity.
Navigation was simplified, key information became easier to find, and access to the relevant ordering portals for children’s photographs was made clear and direct. For schools and decision-makers, the website provided a stronger expression of TSP’s experience, national presence, service quality and understanding of school communities.
The resulting platform brought the strategy, messaging and expressive visual identity together in a digital experience designed to support both immediate customer needs and TSP’s next stage of growth.

PHASE 04
Project Management
With SLICK’s collaborative and strategic approach to progressing the project forward, each phase accelerated the next towards a successful reintroduction of TSP to market.
One integrated team from strategy to launch.
SLICK used a phased but overlapping delivery model, bringing strategy, design and digital specialists into the engagement at the point each could contribute most effectively.
The engagement began in August 2025 with remote strategic consultations involving TSP stakeholders in New South Wales and Victoria. SLICK’s senior leadership team used these sessions to understand the business, its network, its audiences and the gap between its established market position and external presence.
As the strategic direction became sufficiently resolved, SLICK’s design team began translating it into the refreshed visual identity. During the identity’s formalisation and documentation, the digital team joined the process to explore how the emerging system would behave online and to begin the website’s UI/UX transformation.

This controlled overlap meant the website was not produced as a later adaptation of a completed brand. Identity and digital experience informed one another, while senior strategic and creative leadership remained close to the work.
As design and development progressed, SLICK also worked with TSP to identify a cross-section of high-impact marketing materials required for launch and continued operation. TSP’s priorities were combined with SLICK’s recommendations to establish the initial production program.
The refreshed brand and website achieved their targeted soft launch in late December 2025, followed by the full market launch in late January 2026—approximately five months after the engagement began.
Phase 05
Dynamic Method for Ongoing Engagement
Using our flexible design subscriptions, TSP entered into a partnership with SLICK for ongoing development of marketing assets across our disciplines.
From launch project to always-on creative partnership.
Launch marked the beginning of a new operating model rather than the conclusion of the relationship.
TSP continues to engage SLICK through a monthly creative subscription that gives its marketing team ongoing access to strategy, design, digital and production capability. Instead of separately briefing, quoting and procuring every item, TSP can raise work as needs emerge and have it prioritised against current business requirements.
The subscription is designed around responsiveness rather than a fixed allowance of individual tasks. It does not impose hidden per-request fees or a long-term lock-in contract, allowing TSP to use SLICK as a flexible extension of its internal marketing capability.
This removes much of the administrative friction associated with conventional project-by-project agency engagement. TSP’s team can focus on the importance and timing of the work rather than repeatedly negotiating individual scopes before production begins.
PHASE 06
Rapid Delivery of Scalable Marketing
Simple, effective, and transparent solutions for strengthening TSP’s marketing capacities through our dynamic ticket-board system for scalable delivery.
One shared, transparent production workflow.
Work is coordinated through a customised Asana ticket board established for TSP.
The board provides one shared location for briefs, priorities, files, feedback, approvals, time tracking and delivery. TSP can give access to different team members and assign appropriate editor, commenter or administrator permissions.
Every request moves through a clear sequence of visual status indicators:
Received → Prioritised → Active → With Client → Paused → On Hold → Complete

Tasks can also be paused, reprioritised or marked critical as circumstances change. Both teams can see what has been received, what is being actioned, what requires review and what has been delivered.
Updates are connected to TSP’s email environment, so stakeholders receive notifications without needing to monitor the platform independently. Decisions and feedback remain attached to the relevant task, reducing fragmented communication and helping both teams maintain version control.
The system provides transparency without requiring TSP to manage SLICK’s internal production process. Its team can see progress, contribute when required and retain confidence that each request has a clear owner and status.
ONGOING SUPPORT
Volume & Speed for Every Channel
With no limitation on service-kind, our design subscription solution has enabled TSP to launch multimedia marketing activations cross-channel at a rate and quality previously unachievable by their own teams.
High-volume production across every major channel.
Since launch, SLICK has completed 117 tasks for TSP across print, web, digital, social media and video.
The work has included:
- Flyers, press advertisements, reports, invitations and booklets.
- Office stationery, business cards and presentation folders.
- Banners, signage, stickers and branded merchandise.
- Social media graphics, EDMs and email signatures.
- Website graphics, new web pages and ongoing UI/UX optimisation.
- Video production, animation and conference media.
- Copywriting, content creation and broader campaign support.
The breadth is significant, but so is the increase in TSP’s overall production capacity.
Before launch, data shared by TSP indicated that its internal marketing team of two—occasionally supported by a third person—could produce, at best, approximately one asset per day.
Since engaging SLICK, the subscription has added an average of approximately one completed task per working day to that internal output. During peak periods, SLICK has delivered as many as four completed tasks in a single day.
At its post-launch quarterly review, TSP reported that total marketing output had increased by between 200% and 500%, depending on the channel.
TODAY
Responsiveness in Urgency
SLICK’s flexible scheduling permits reactive and responsive delivery when tasks are raised in urgency, with live-time tracking and clear communication channels with our team.
Responding when the deadline cannot move.
Not every request can be planned in advance. TSP’s internal capacity, advertising opportunities and stakeholder deadlines can create situations where a critical asset is required almost immediately.
One example was a term planner celebrating TSP’s 40th anniversary.
The request was raised at approximately 9:00 am AWST with an urgent production deadline. Using the priority controls and shared visibility provided by the Asana workflow, SLICK dynamically adjusted the design schedule and assigned the work immediately.

The first creative draft was delivered within 60 minutes. Following review, production-ready artwork was supplied within two hours of the initial request.
That example reflects the wider performance of the subscription. As of June 2026:
- The average turnaround for an initial creative draft was one to two business days.
- More than 90% of critical creative and graphic-design requests had been actioned and delivered on the same day.
Web and motion projects are rarely classified as critical because their technical and production requirements differ. For appropriate creative and design tasks, however, the workflow gives SLICK the visibility and flexibility required to respond quickly without losing control of quality, approvals or final artwork preparation.
RESULTS
Performance, Insights, & Outcomes
Post-launch performance information was gathered during TSP’s quarterly client review. Enquiry growth was corroborated through website analytics available to SLICK.
Commercial results that return tangible business value.
The commercial and operational effects of the transformation were evident within the first quarter after launch.
Website analytics available to SLICK confirmed an increase of more than 300% in service enquiries during the first three months.
TSP’s sales team also reported an improvement in the quality of incoming leads. When new customers were asked why they had chosen TSP, more than 75% cited the brand or website among their reasons.
The effect was therefore not limited to awareness or visual perception. The refreshed brand and digital experience were influencing customer consideration and generating substantially greater demand.
At the same time, the subscription model was helping TSP respond to that momentum by increasing marketing output across channels, shortening production timelines and giving its internal team direct access to a broader range of specialist capability.
I cannot recommend the team at SLICK highly enough. They are true subject matter experts who don’t just ‘design’—they strategically transforms. Their design skills are world-class, but what sets them apart is their consultative approach and commitment to excellent customer service.
If you are looking for a partner who can elevate your brand and deliver with precision, SLICK is your go-to.”
